Minnie Louise Nelson, age 94 of Leonardville, passed away Monday, May 7, 2018 at the Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center.
She was born on September 16, 1923 at Green, the daughter of William F. and Anna (Schafer) Hafner. She went to grade school in Bala and graduated from Clay Center High School in 1942. She then worked in Clay Center as a waitress and later worked in Manhattan on a truck farm during the war driving a tractor.
On March 10, 1945, she was married to Dail Edward Nelson. They lived in the Leonardville community and then moved to Riley in 1948 and farmed and ran a Grade A Dairy. In 1965, they moved to Manhattan on Tuttle Creek Lake and started working for the Veterinary Hospital at Kansas State University for the next 23 years until she retired in 1988. She enjoyed cooking, camping, fishing, playing cards and traveling. Most of all she enjoyed her kids, grandkids and great grandkids.
She belonged to Coast to Coast camping, RSVP, Manhattan Senior Center and the Riley Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her husband, Dail Nelson of Leonardville; three children, Janet Hill and Bob Bates of Manhattan, Kent Nelson and wife Mary of Manhattan and Linda King and husband Alvin of Manhattan; six grandchildren, Troy Hill (Tiffany), Kevin Hill (Jennifer), Stacey Scarbrough (Kenny), Michael King (Emily), Christy Nelson, Casey Nelson; seven great grandchildren, Lauren Hill, Brayden Hill, Reagen Hill, Michael Parker, Kelsey Parker, Jaxon Scarbrough and Adley King and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Lyle Hafner and Wayne Hafner and two brothers-in-law, Ronald Kendall and Wendell Nelson and wife Dorothy.
Cremation is planned with memorial services at a later date.
Memorials may be made to Riley Senior Centre and Riley Presbyterian Church and may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.
